BASKETBALL HEADS INTO DISTRICT


Birdville, along with every other team in District 7-5A, prepares for the melee that district play brings starting on Tuesday night. After playing a challenging pre-season schedule and facing mostly 6A schools, women’s basketball are primed and prepared for the tough district that lies ahead. Birdville finishes the preseason with a 7-8 record and heads into district play battled-tested.

The Hawks average 37 points, 20 rebounds and 9 steals per game. Takiela Jones and Brooklyn Iman are the lead scores for the team averaging 7.7 and 7.4 points per game, respectively. Iman has been a force for the Hawks boasting the top rebound average and field goal percentage. Jones leads the Hawks with 92 points, 20 assists and 25 steals. Jones and Iman are complemented by Mia LaCour, Azzaerya Pina-Warren  and newcomer Fallon Hester. LaCour has collected 70 points with a 38 FG% and a team leading 5 blocks. Pina-Warren owns 69 points and 15 steals to her name so far this season falling right behind Jones with 17 assists.  Hester has had a hot start in her freshman year debut. She is second on the team in total rebounds with 52 and steals with 22, and third with 15 assists.

The Hawks will need to stay in tune and rhythm with each other starting Tuesday. They head into district play against Denton Ryan, who finished 2nd in District last year and are currently holding a 13-4 record. Birdville will need to continue their strong play at home Friday, December 15th. They will face 7-6 Grapevine, who finished 6th in district, 1 spot behind Birdville last year .

All three teams are looking to battle it out to start their season off with a couple wins. Hawks are in action Tuesday night away at 5:45 and take the home stage on Friday. They play at 5:45 pm with the men’s basketball team starting up shortly after at 7 pm.
