25 Years of Hawks

Homecoming Week

25 Years of Hawks - Homecoming Week

Hawks are coming off their first week of District play and into a week full of district opponents and Homecoming excitement. Hawk Football and Hawk Volleyball both started District  play on Friday and after two big wins, they are ready to make homecoming week one to remember.

Homecoming is always a highly anticipated week at Birdville High, filled with school spirit, parades, dress up days, and district games under the lights. To heighten the already intense week, this years homecoming celebrates Birdville High Schools 25th year since they opened the school doors in 1999. Alongside homecoming festivities, Hawk athletics face off against district opponents throughout the week and celebrate 25 years with games Friday night.

Team Tennis is off to a roaring start with an undefeated record in district. Defeating Denton Ryan, Grapevine and Denton High. This week they face off against Argyle who is also undefeated. Hawk Tennis will play on Tuesday at Birdville at 4 pm.

Volleyball won their district opener against Denton Ryan handily in 3 sets; 25-17, 25-20, 25-18. This week the Hawks will face two big district opponents, for a double homestand. First up, Grapevine High School. 2022 brought the Hawks and the Mustangs together three times, resulting in the Hawks taking the series 2-1 with their last win eliminating Grapevine from playoffs. Grapevine is currently 9-16 and 0-1 in District. They will match up for the first time this year on Tuesday. Friday night the Hawks host another district foe, Denton High. The Broncos, who finished 7th last year, have started the year 22-7 and 1-0 in district beating Richland High. Last year the Hawks were dominant in their facings against Denton, winning 6 straight sets for a 2 match sweep.

Hawk Volleyball has been on a tear the past few weeks winning 7 out of their 8 matches, dropping only one to the perennial volleyball powerhouse Keller High School. Leading the offensive charge is Lyric Steward with 269 kills, Hannah Moran with 142 kills and Addison Iman with 136 kills. Defensively the Hawks are led by Misha Jones and her 339 digs and the Steward sisters Lyric and Teryjah  combining for 37 blocks out of the Hawks 64. Abbi Parr has been a vital piece to the Hawks success all-around with 467 out of the 776 assists for the team, followed up 6 blocks and 92 kills. The Hawk Volleyball team can be found at Birdville High School on Tuesday 9/12 at 6:30 pm and Friday 9/15 at 5:30 pm.

Homecoming week would not be the same without a tough match on the gridiron. Hawk Football found their footing against first district opponent, R.L. Tuner winning with a resounding 48-18 score, making them 1-0 in District.

This week the Hawks prepare for the Newman-Smith Trojans. Newman-Smith had a bye week and will have their first district game on Birdville's turf. Last year Newman-Smith missed playoffs finishing 5th in district. Last time the Hawks and the Trojans faced off, the Hawks ran away with an emphatic 44-6 win. Hoping to recreate that success would mean all cylinders firing. Cylinders like quarterback Noah Normand who has thrown for 634 yards in three games and averaged 18.6 yards per completion. Running back Jaylen Davis is another Hawk needing to continue his strong play. Davis has compiled 246 yards carried in only 46 carries. Caleb Kelley and Brian Kent have combined for 471 out of the Hawks 634 receiving yards, 276 & 195 respectively. Kelley leads the district with Kent in second. Defensively, Jayden Nafegar  and Anthony Martinez are powering the Hawks. In three games Nafegar has 16 solo tackles, 23 assists, one interception, and one caused and recovered fumble.  Senior, Martinez also has impressive stats for the Hawks with 12 solo tackles, 22 assists and one fumble recovery. Going into game four, the Hawks will need these pivotal players looking sharp.

With a slew of homecoming events, one you won't want to miss is Hawk Football under the Birdville Stadium lights on Friday, September 15th at 7 pm.

25 years of Alumni are welcomed back home for a pep rally at 2:10pm on Friday and both the Hawk Volleyball and Football games.
